Truth in the Room - The Clearmountain Sessions LP

Few voices in Contemporary Blues carry the lived weight and luminous authenticity of Janiva Magness. Born in Detroit and forged by a childhood marked by hardship and loss, she found in music not just a calling but a lifeline. Over a career spanning more than three decades and 18 releases, she has built one of the most honest and enduring bodies of work in American roots music. Along the way she has earned multiple Blues Music Awards, a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Blues Album, and the B.B. King Entertainer of the Year award, one of the genre's highest individual honors. Live performance has always been the truest expression of who she is. Fans have long clamored for a recording that could capture what they experience in the room with her: that electricity, that give-and-take, the sense that something unrepeatable is unfolding in real time. For years, Magness held off, knowing the terms had to be right. That moment arrived with 'Truth in the Room - The Clearmountain Sessions'. Recorded at Berkeley Street Studios before an intimate gathering of 150 invited guests and engineered and mixed by the legendary Bob Clearmountain, the album captures not just the performance but the atmosphere, the warmth, and the irreplaceable chemistry between a great artist, her band, and an audience that is fully, joyfully present.
